Celebrating Two Remarkable Lives

Mykolas Abarius, a significant leader of the Lithuanian National Guard and a respected figure among the diaspora, was celebrated for his dedicated service. His leadership was acknowledged with the Order of the Cross of Vytis, an honor marking his profound influence.

Lionginas Abarius, recognized across Lithuania for his contributions to the arts as a composer, choir conductor, and professor, played a vital role in shaping the country’s cultural landscape.

The event was marked by the presence of the Abarius family from the United States, residents of Antazavė, and members of the Lithuanian National Guard’s 9th Regiment, led by Colonel P. Saladžius. Community leaders, including Stasys Ignatavičius, president of the V. Putvinskis – Putvys Club, highlighted Mykolas Abarius’s impact, while A. Lekaveckas, a local leader, shared the inspiring journey of Lionginas Abarius from a humble church organ assistant to a renowned musician.

The ceremony featured performances of Lithuanian folk songs, arranged by Lionginas Abarius and performed by Juozas Janušaitis of the Kaunas Musical Theatre, and reserve lieutenant Dovydas Jokubauskis from the Kaunas State Drama Theatre.

The Lithuanian National Guard expresses its appreciation to those who organized and participated in the event, ensuring the legacies of M. and L. Abarius are remembered in Lithuania.
