The Lithuanian Sports Museum is now the permanent home for the extensive collection of shooting awards won by Balys Savickas, a key figure from the Lithuanian National Guard in exile. These awards, from competitions across Canada, the USA, and the World Lithuanian Sports Games, honor his remarkable career, now permanently celebrated.
A Legacy Secured
As the former shooting coach of the Vilnius National Guard’s Toronto Company under V. Pūtvis, Balys Savickas has significantly impacted the shooting sports. His 28 plaques showcase his skill in competitions and his role as an official at the Montreal Olympics, evidencing his high level of skill and respect within the sport.
Stasys Ignatavičius, President of the V. Putvinskio – Pūtvis Club, stated, “The plaques we’ve moved to the museum cover all of Balys Savickas’ competitive shooting life. His work as an official at the Montreal Olympics tells us a lot about his high level of expertise. Visitors to the museum can now learn about Balys Savickas and his impressive sporting history.”
